Fittler revealed nine days ago on Nine’s 100% Feet that he had talked to Hynes since he was fired.

“I spoke to Nicho after Cronulla (beating the Dragons), he was amazing,” he said.

“The thing with Nicho at the moment is he’s playing full back for the Sharks and he likes to play on the right, then Mitchell Moses is the full back and he plays on the right and you have someone like Cody. Walker who’s five and eight and he plays on the other side, so that’s better.

“Because Nicho is doing a very good job right now and outside the field, it seems like an easy target for many people in the media to review and want to force a decision, and it seems like they want to drive the border between Nicho and me.

“Nicho and I have a good understanding of the situation at the moment, I respect what he is doing for the Sharks and he is doing a great job, so if he continues he will force himself into the team somewhere.”

Former Blues coach Phil Gould also revealed that injured and down players were in the Blues’ dining room.

NSW and Queensland have both named unchanged sides for Origin III, although Reece Robson and Damien Cook are rumored to be swapped, along with Clint Gutherson using the bench and reserve Spencer Leniu.
