A disgraced doctor convicted of sexually abusing a teenage Olympic gymnast under his supervision was stabbed multiple times Sunday at the Florida prison where he works.

The 59-year-old also suffered a lung collapse. However, he is fine as of Monday, officials said.
It is not yet known who has been arrested behind the stabbing.
The federal Bureau of Prisons has confirmed that an inmate was assaulted in Coleman at 2:35 pm on Sunday. Prison staff administered life-saving treatment before Nassar was rushed to a nearby hospital for further treatment.
“No staff or other inmates were injured, and at no time were people in danger. The internal investigation is ongoing,” officials said, adding that the FBI had also been notified.
The Associated Press reports that the prison has been experiencing staff shortages. All of the officers assigned to Nassar’s unit have reportedly been working overtime in response to a shortage of prison guards.

One of the officers was on his third shift in a row, working a 16-hour day. Meanwhile, the other officer was said to be on his second shift in a row, according to reports.
Like it has already been saidNassar has already been attacked in prison since his indictment in 2018. He is serving time on death row in both state and federal courts.

Back in 2018, Nassar was sentenced to 175 years in prison for raping several female gymnasts, which included famous Olympic gold medalists.
At least 40 girls and women are said to have been sexually assaulted over a 14-month period. Meanwhile, the victims said the FBI was aware of Nassar’s abuse at the time.

Background: Nassar’s Most Victims, FBI File Mea Culpa
The FBI acknowledged that his actions were “unwarranted and disrespectful” to the entire agency.
The victims were top gymnasts like Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, and Simone Biles, among others.
The sports doctor also separately admitted to having child pornography.
Meanwhile, the Michigan Supreme Court rejected a last-ditch appeal from Nassar last June, according to NBC News.
“I just signed your death warrant,” Ingham County Judge Rosemarie Aquilina said during Nassar’s sentencing, according to the AP.
In May 2018, Michigan State agreed to pay $500 million for the more than 300 women and girls he beat Associated Press was said at the time. In 2021, USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee will also settled with those involved for $380 million, per share.
