With opportunities running out, Shakur quickly went into debt and needed a cash infusion. He agreed to sing a song composed by Little Shawnthe up-and-comer signed Andre Harrell‘s Uptown Records and is managed by James Rosemond (aka “Jimmy Henchman”), who knew Agnant.
In November 1994, Shakur made a proposal in a conversation with a New York Daily News that Agnant – whom Shakur says is a “hanger-on” – was accused of rape. He said he also saw Agnant hanging out with Biggie.
On Nov. 30, Shakur went to NYC’s Quad recording studio to cut a song for Little Shawn. She had her sister’s boyfriend Zayd; Live squad rapper Randy “Stretch” Walker, his friend is Biggie; and Tambasulani’s friend Fred.
According to Shakur’s story, when he got there, there was a guy who was tired outside of the military and another guy in the lobby, who he didn’t know, but thought he worked as security for Biggie. On their way to the elevator, Shakur said, the two men pulled out guns and told everyone to get off and take off their jewelry. Shakur was shot five times.
However, he went to the elevator and went upstairs, where a group gathered, including Combs, Biggie and Harrell. According to other reports, the police who arrived at the scene were the same three who arrested Shakur for rape, including one who had just testified at his trial. (Shakur he said Vibe recognized the officer after he was shot.) But a former NYPD officer Bill Courtneywho has worked with a work group quietly set up to oversee the hip-hop movement for criminal activity, he said XXL magazine in 2011 that these were not the same police.
However, Courtney believed that the shooting was in return for something. (In 2011, a prisoner serving a life sentence for murder he wrote to AllHipHop.com claiming that Jimmy Rosemond hired him to shoot Shakur in the Quad; Rosemond’s attorney removed it as nothing more than a prisoner’s attempt to have his sentence shortened.)
