AFL news 2023 | Daniel McStay suffers ACL injury; Collingwood Magpies statement

Collingwood has suffered a blow in its premiership defence, with scans confirming Dan McStay has suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.

The club confirmed the news on Friday after he went down in a training session.

McStay missed the 2023 grand final with a medical collateral ligament strain in his right knee which he suffered in the preliminary final against GWS.

It’s a major blow for the forward who had only just returned to training this week.

“This is unfortunate news for Dan who is likely to miss the 2024 season,” executive general manager of football Graham Wright said in a club statement.

“We are all extremely disappointed for Dan, and our entire club will rally around him during this difficult time and throughout his rehab journey.”

McStay played 14 games for the Magpies last season, kicking 20 goals after joining from Brisbane.

The forward had previously played 160 matches for Brisbane.
