The third generation of Apple silicon chips for Macs and iPads will be launched by the end of the year, according to two reports. Some say they will launch in the third quarter of the year, while others say October.
We’ve known for a while that the first Macs with an M3 processor were coming soon, but we didn’t know exactly when. But in his own weekly newspaper, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman said his sources said that in addition to the annual iPhone and Apple Watch launch event in September, Apple is planning to launch another event in October. He then decided that the “possible theme” of the event would be Macs, although he based this on historical facts and not any revelations and sources. I agree that this is in line with Apple’s history, though; the company usually holds a second event in October or November to launch new Macs and iPads after the iPhone fan has been quiet since September.
Meanwhile, a preview of what’s to come DigiTimes report facts are MacRumors says “Apple’s next-generation MacBook Pro expected to be launched in the third quarter will feature 3 nm processors, according to industry sources.”
If true, this probably means the 13-inch MacBook Pro, which has been used to release new generations of Apple chips in the past, while the high-end 14-inch and 16-inch models have gotten more powerful models to start with. chips after months.
Now, there’s a conflict there: October’s Gourmet Day falls outside of Apple’s third quarter. Perhaps, DigiTimes refers to the third quarter of the calendar year, not Apple’s third financial quarter, as Apple’s Q3 financial results are already over. If Apple were to launch the M3 in the third quarter of the calendar, it would have to happen sooner rather than later. This seems unlikely, especially since Apple released the M1 and M2 chips with events, not just press releases, and no events are scheduled this month. It is possible that Apple may announce the M3 at its iPhone event in September, which may fall in the third quarter of the calendar. But I think it’s doubtful, since the last thing Apple wants to do is steal the iPhone 15’s thunder or confuse the information about the launch of this important product.
For these reasons, I consider Gurman’s October target to be possible, although Apple may delay it until November for some reason, which has happened several times in the past.
Quibbles about exact dates aside, it seems clear that we can expect the first M3 Macs before the end of the year. As DigiTimes reported, it is sure to start with the 13-inch MacBook Pro. The 24-inch iMac is also overdue for an upgrade. The M1 and M2 also found their way into the iPad Pro, iPad Air, and MacBook Air, so we may see them arrive on those devices as well, although we don’t know when. The M3 is also said to be manufactured through a 3 nm process, which means it could be more efficient than its predecessor, allowing for better performance, better battery life, or both.
