The election will give all 350 seats to the Congress of Deputies, Spain’s main legislative body. If no single party receives a majority in Congress ⎯ what will happen ⎯ the parties will negotiate until they form a governing coalition.

Due to start at the end of the year, the vote is the first time Spain will hold elections at the end of the summer, raising concerns about turnout. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez PSOEthe main democratic party, called for an early election after poor results among left-leaning parties in regional and local elections in May.
PSOE is opposed on the right by PPa prominent Christian political and democratic party led by Senator Alberto Núñez Feijóo.

If the PP or PSOE fails to win a majority, the center-right PP would look to make a deal and the right side Vox, led by Santiago Abascal, member of the Congress of Deputies. Similarly, the center-left PSOE would look to form a coalition with summer, a coalition of 20 progressive and regional parties led by Yolanda Díaz, deputy prime minister and minister of labor. Sumar joins Unidas Podemos, a leftist party that won 35 seats in 2019, which is struggling after its meteoric rise eight years ago.
If one of these coalitions fails to reach a majority in the parliament, it must gain the support of smaller regional parties.
In addition to the Congress of Deputies, 208 seats will also be allocated to the Senate, the regional chamber, but this body does not participate in the selection of ministers.
