Brad Fittler’s response to a question about the Blues’ coaching future

Brad Fittler has offered a familiar response amid continued uncertainty over his future as NSW Blues coach.

Both Fittler’s and Queensland’s Billy Slater’s contracts as coaches expired after the 2023 State of Origin series.

After two wins in his first two games as coach, Billy Slater looks set to be extended.

But despite a 3-3 record in his six years as Blues coach, Fittler is thought to be out.

At Nine Sunday Footy Showreporter Danika Mason asked Fittler directly if he wanted the job, and the Blues icon refused to give an open answer.

“It’s just about finding the best person,” he said.

“Let’s worry about it first and then we’ll talk about it and get it out of the way.”

He was then asked if he still had “fire in (his) belly,” and the answer was yes.

“We’ll see,” Fittler said.

Also on the team, Slater said being an Origin coach was a tough job, win or lose.

“It’s very emotional, very emotional. And, you know, you have to think about many aspects of your life, like your family,” he said.

“So there’s a lot that goes into it. At the same time, it’s important to us. Our countries are important to us. This team has been a big part of my life for a long time and I’ve enjoyed my life a lot. It’s time to help the boys be the inspiration for our country.”
