Hayman retired from rugby in 2015 and believes the thousands of knocks to the head he suffered during his rugby career contributed to his illness.
Regarded as one of New Zealand’s best ever, Hayman made his Test debut against Samoa in 2001.
He dominated the All Blacks forward line for the next six years.
His last Test was against France in Cardiff as the All Blacks crashed out of the Rugby World Cup.
Known for his dribbling ability, Hayman was also fast and effective as a linebacker.
Hayman recently published a memoir, Face to faceabout rugby, dementia and the cost of success.
