Ancient History
Following the final of the Heineken Champions Cup on May 20, 2023, Leinster Rugby player Johnny Sexton faced allegations of wrongdoing. Furthermore, the whole of Leinster Rugby is under scrutiny for their failure to control Mr Sexton.
EPCR’s Disciplinary process
Pursuant to EPCR rules, the EPCR Disciplinary Officer conducted a thorough investigation into Johnny Sexton’s post-match actions towards the match officials. As a result, the complaint was submitted for review by an independent panel.
The Independent Disciplinary Panel
The chairperson of the Independent Disciplinary Panel was responsible for handling the complaints. Christopher Quinlan KC (England) was appointed Chairman, along with Adam Casselden SC (Australia) and Marcello D’Orey (Portugal), to form the Independent Disciplinary Committee. Their job is to check the suspected wrongdoing and check if there is any wrongdoing.

To ensure a fair and efficient process, the hearing will be conducted via video conference. This allows those involved to explain their cases and provide information, even when there are no in-person incidents. However, the announcement of the date when the results will be declared is yet to be announced.
