Essendon champions Matthew Lloyd has called out the AFL, saying the league would be a “laughing stock” if the final card race was revealed.
It comes after a second premiership win Geelong teacher Chris Scott He also expressed similar concerns around the “integrity” of the AFL being “undermined” by the proposed extra round.
“Throwing a team of 10 to have another chance to make it … we’re going to be ridiculous,” said Matthew Lloyd on Nine. Footy Classified Wednesday night.

“We have, in the elite sport, by international standards, one of the most chaotic competitions you can imagine,” Scott said on Wednesday.
“Play two teams five times, odd numbers, oh let’s just throw in a ‘gather round’ and mess up the competition a lot.
“If these things are really important from the fans or from the business, they are worth considering, I just ask that the integrity of the competition is given more.”
But the journalist Damien Barrett explained the merits of the six-by-six and six-by-six after 17, which will allow the sides to compete for important places on the ladder and “make an impression” at the end of the season, connecting with the wildcard finals round.
“To have the best six games in the top six, change the order, the middle six will play seventh and eighth, and the bottom six will play each other and create an interest in the end game that we don’t get now with the game different,” Barrett said. Footy Classified.

“What the six-and-sixth-sixty-six plan can do is bring this district to the unknown and keep the competition open in that area.”
The AFL would still need to reschedule matches such as the Western derby, Showdown and other competitions, Geelong champion Jimmy Bartel against the idea.
“It’s already messed up because we have 18 teams in the 24-round tournament,” Bartel said. Footy Classified.
“Let’s take Collingwood for example. If they go out and finish four games at the top of the ladder, what does it look like for the top six? What… starting from zero again, where is the advantage ahead of another competition?
“Are we going to have a lottery system, adding more balls?”
